The company has developed a provider-oriented performance monitor designed to be positioned at the front door of a cloud network, keeping its footprint minimal. Once in place, it observes all traffic passing into and out of the network, unobtrusively profiling the performance of both infrastructure and applications. Performance anomalies are user-focused, describing when real-world slowdowns are occurring.
While existing application performance management systems are designed to be bound to in-house infrastructure or to monitor server resources, the novel approach developed by Altometrics makes it the first to be designed specifically for all the ins and outs of cloud computing from the ground-up—a powerful, user-focused, provider-oriented approach to performance management.
A crucial aspect of its power is its ability to distinguish infrastructure problems from application problems. For the cloud provider, this means the ability to identify and resolve infrastructure issues before they impact clients, and to enable clients to pinpoint exactly where application issues occur.
In addition, because it monitors information about real traffic coming into and out of the network, it describes real-world issues as they occur: the provider and its clients are able to identify and react to emergent performance anomalies in the infrastructure or application as they occur.
